At least 11 people were injured and taken to hospital after a mass shooting on Sunday night (25 May) in the beach town of Little River, South Carolina, The Associate Press reported citing authorities.
Horry County Police stated that the shooting occurred at around 9:30 pm but did not provide details about the condition of those injured. They also said they had received reports of additional victims arriving at local hospitals in private vehicles.
Dozens of police cars and ambulances were seen moving in and out of a mostly residential street near the Intracoastal Waterway in Little River, about 20 miles (32 kilometres) northeast of Myrtle Beach.
Around 90 minutes after the incident, police confirmed it was an isolated shooting and that there was no ongoing threat to the community. However, they did not release any information regarding the suspect or the cause of the shooting.
So far, authorities have not provided any details about suspects or a possible motive.
According to the Associated Press, the shooting took place in a primarily residential area that also includes a few boating businesses.
This incident comes just a month after a mass shooting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where one person was killed and 11 others were injured.
In that case, police said a fight broke out on North Ocean Boulevard, and someone opened fire. An officer also discharged their weapon, hitting one individual who later died.
