In view of the warning of heavy rainfall in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a holiday for all government and private schools as well as colleges in the city on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, the holiday, which is also for teaching and non-teaching staff, has also been declared keeping in mind the safety of students. The order was issued on Monday

“The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning (extremely heavy rainfall) for Mumbai City and Suburbs tomorrow i.e. Tuesday, 19th August 2025. In view of the same, District Disaster Management Authority (BMC) hereby declares a holiday for all Government, Private and Municipal schools and colleges in Mumbai," the civic body said in a post on X.

Mumbai has witnessed heavy rains since the early hours of Monday, following which the BMC had declared a holiday for all schools and colleges.

The BMC has declared a holiday today for all other government and semi-government offices.

Meanwhile, delayed local train services and traffic snarls at various places was also witnessed on Tuesday morning as there was no respite from heavy rains in the metropolis and neighbouring areas.

Mumbai Police Urges Caution
Urging people to adhere to the safety guidelines, the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai, took to X and wrote, “Good Morning, Mumbai. Hope you are adhering to the safety guidelines in wake of the heavy showers expected today."

“Please take care, step out only if necessary, prevent going near the shore during high tide and don’t forget, you will find us around the corner for help, in case of any emergency. Requesting the private sector to enable work from home as much as possible," he added.
