In a move that has reignited turmoil in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the government of Israel has approved a contentious policy to begin land registration in the occupied West Bank for the first time since 1967. The move marks a shift in how land in the territory is legally classified and could dramatically reshape ownership and control of the region, leading several critics to term it “draconian".
According to The Jerusalem Post, under the new plan, extensive areas of the West Bank, particularly in Area C, which is under full Israeli control, would be formally registered as state property unless claimants can provide documented proof of private ownership.

Ahead of the AI Summit, PM Modi said, “Starting today, India hosts the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. I warmly welcome world leaders, captains of industry, innovators, policymakers, researchers and tech enthusiasts from across the world for this Summit. The theme of the Summit is Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya or welfare for all, happiness for all, reflecting our shared commitment to harnessing Artificial Intelligence for human-centric progress,”
“Thanks to the 1.4 billion people of India, our nation stands at the forefront of the AI transformation. From digital public infrastructure to a vibrant StartUp ecosystem and cutting-edge research, our strides in AI reflect both ambition and responsibility,” he added.
Minister of State for MeitY Jitin Prasada underlined India’s participatory approach. “India’s approach to AI is anchored in Jan Bhagidari positioning citizens as active participants in this transformation,” he said. He added that structured engagement across states, startups, academia, and civil society is central to broadening access to innovation.
By grounding AI in “real public needs and lived realities,” he said, India is demonstrating how citizen engagement can guide responsible development. His remarks reflect the summit’s emphasis on inclusion and bottom-up innovation.
Zoom Founder and CEO Eric Yuan said, “At Zoom, our approach to AI is rooted in a simple belief: technology should help people connect, create, and move forward together.” He added that as AI reshapes work and communication, “it brings a responsibility to prioritise trust, security, and human values.”
Yuan emphasised ethical deployment and youth empowerment, aligning with India’s Digital India and AI for All initiatives. His remarks reinforce the summit’s framing of AI as a tool to expand opportunity rather than merely automate processes.
Bill Gates, founder-chair of the Gates Foundation, arrived at Gannavaram Airport on Monday. Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, along with other ministers, the district collector, the superintendent of police, and public representatives, received him on arrival.
The aircraft carrying Gates circled in the air for some time due to dense fog before landing after clearance was granted, as cited by PTI.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport issued a passenger advisory on Monday ahead of the India AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam, warning of possible traffic congestion and delays to and from the airport. Passengers were advised to plan their travel in advance and use the metro for easier access.
In a post on X, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said major events in the national capital could disrupt road traffic.
“In view of major events in Delhi that may impact travel to and from the airport, travelers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and consider alternative public transport options,” the advisory said.
The UK government said its focus at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi starting Monday will be on promoting how artificial intelligence can drive growth, create jobs, improve public services, and deliver benefits globally.
The UK delegation, led by deputy prime Minister David Lammy and AI Minister Kanishka Narayan, will highlight AI’s potential to improve daily life and support healthcare, education, public administration, and employment.
“This summit is an important moment in determining how we can work together with our international partners to unlock the full benefits and potential of AI, while baking in robust and fair safety standards that protect us all,” Lammy said, as cited by PTI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the India AI Impact Summit has drawn global attention to the country’s growing technological capabilities, calling it a moment of pride for the nation and a reflection of the potential of India’s youth.
